Well, today is the day!
It’s officially Quitter’s Day.
The second Friday in January, which is Jan. 10th for 2025, is the day you are likely to abandon your resolutions for 2025.
To celebrate Quitter’s Day, let’s talk about a great alternative to resolutions you are likely to quit on.
I recently saw a delightful short about using a BINGO card instead of making New Year’s Resolutions.
The creator of the BINGO card idea lists advantages like:
- It lets you focus on things you’d simply like to do
- The items can be very simple
- Marking even one square off is satisfying
- When you have 4 of 5 in a row, you are motivated to knock out that 5th one
- As long as you get one BINGO, you have succeeded!
Another thing I like about a BINGO card is that it allows for reflection throughout the year as well as at the end of the year. It helps you ask and answer some key questions like:
- What things did you think were key to achieve in 2025?
- Are the things you once viewed as significant still important to you?
- Which things did you actually do? What does that tell you about what matters most to you?
If New Year’s resolutions typically work for you, go for it!
If not though, consider making your own BINGO card. I’ve got mine started.
Finding connection and places of belonging can feel overwhelming, especially in these times and at the beginning of a new year.
We think of all the societal challenges like remote working, neighborhoods that aren’t walkable, a lack of third spaces (those places outside of home and work where people can socialize and connect like the old shopping malls or neighborhood parks), and fewer local community opportunities than ever before.
Working to change these challenges is a big undertaking! That’s why we gather here – to be inspired by actions others are taking that are impacting those things and to take small steps toward the same goals ourselves whether it be wearing a fun outfit to invite people to interact with us or taking cookies to a neighbor.
In honor of all the small actions this community is taking, I created a special BINGO card for all of you Social Seahorses! You can sign up using the form below. If you are already on the community email list, look for an email from me with direct links to download both a digital and printable card.
Because I love hearing from you about the kinds of connections you are making, I’m going to send a high-quality, vinyl Social Seahorse sticker to the first 10 people to send me a photo of their first filled BINGO for the year. Details on how to receive your sticker will be included in the emails sent when you sign up for the community email list below.
Let’s create community together, one small action at a time!
